The jacaranda is an iconic Melbourne tree, loved for its summer shade and vibrant purple flowers that signal the warmer months. Growing into a broad, graceful canopy, it creates a beautiful sense of scale and looks especially striking when planted in pairs to form a shaded walkway beneath.
As a feature tree it works well with layered underplanting, allowing the canopy to frame the space above while softer planting fills the garden below. While it can be lightly pruned to maintain a smaller size, a jacaranda is at its best when given room to grow and show its full presence. Hardy, drought tolerant and relatively low maintenance, it remains a favourite for adding seasonal colour and generous shade to classic gardens.
