Commonly asked questions

How do I look after my Camellia Japonica Espalier?

Espaliered plants will continue to grow beyond the current lattice. You can simply snip off the existing lattice to attach larger lattice or attach additional lattice. Espaliered plants grows well along guide wires also. Plants can also be pruned back to smaller sizes to suit compact gardens. If your location is quite sunny, consider a Sasanqua variety instead.

When should I fertalise my camellias?

The best time to fertilize camellias is in late winter or early spring, just before the growing season begins. Fertilizing at this time provides nutrients to support new growth and flower development. It’s essential to use a balanced fertilizer specifically formulated for acid-loving plants, as camellias prefer acidic soil. Additionally, follow the recommended dosage on the fertilizer package to avoid over-fertilizing, which can harm the plants.

Can Camellia Espaliers be kept in a pot?

Yes they can, just select a pot with some additional room for the plant to grow. Keep an eye on the moisture in the pot as potted plants tend to dry out more quickly than they would if they were in the ground.
