Description

English Box Standards are one of the most popular Topiary plants for framing a garden or home entrance. Their compact size makes them suitable for feature planters. Commonly referred to as a “Ball on a stick” or “Lollypop” their stem will remain the same size, as the “Ball” size continues to grow larger as fresh new foliage comes through. They greatly benefit from several small prunes a year, to encourage their rounded shape. They can also be pruned into an “Eclipse” shape for a point of difference. For best results place in full sun and rotate the pot every few months to encourage even overall growth on the plant.

Please note the stem height on the standards do vary, please advise our friendly staff of your height preference

Commonly Asked Questions:

How do I care for my English Box Standard Topiary?

Several small prunes a year will keep this spiral topiary in its attractive shape. Use sharp sheers and keep standing back to get a better view of the shape you are creating. Water and fertalise the plant well after a prune. Top Buxus  sells a great range of care products to keep your English Box in great health. Alternatively a slow release fertaliser will also work well.

Will my Standard continue to get taller?

English Box Standards  have been grafted so that the “stem” of the plant will remain the same size, while the “Ball” or “Head” of the plant will continue to grow.

Can I keep a English Box Standard in a pot?

Yes you can, you may find in a few years time you need to increase the size of your planter. Plants in pots will also dry out more quickly than they would if they were in the ground, keep an eye on the moisture level to prevent the plant drying out.
